Don’t Get Scammed In Second Life
January 19th, 2011
Here are some Second Life tips to keeping your account safe from scammers and to help you recognize when someone tries to scam you. These tips are helpful especially if you are new in the game.
Password-protected SL items?
Don’t be fooled if someone approaches you with a Second Life item or gift that requires a password to open it. Your password should be given only at the home page of the game or the login screen for the SL viewer. When inworld, your password is not required to gain access to any items or locations.
Is there such a thing as Free Linden Dollars?
If you are spammed regarding free Linden dollars or the purchase of L$, be aware, it’s probably a scam.
Stay away from Phishing Web Sites
Many phishing websites may look legit but their only goal is to get a hold of you SL password. Don’t let them trick you, if you’re sent a link to log into any site other than the secondlife.com with your SL information, than ignore it.
Some common tricks phishing websites use to get your Second Life login details:
- Promises of free Linden Dollars and prizes
- Access to cheats and hacks that require your SL password
- Threatening emails that you’re account will be terminated if you do not verify your login details.
Not every website will be a scam or of phishing web site. There are some trustworthy sites available that filter out the scammers and give you access to Second Life cheats, hacks, and bots that will help instead of destroying you inworld.

Getting Free Second Life Items
January 12th, 2011
Before you buy Second Life items in the Marketplace check out the items that are being given away free. Just because they’re free doesn’t mean they’re not quality items. Many of the content creators are selfless and simply love creating things so they have no interest in making money from their work.
In the Marketplace you can get free Second Life scripts, artwork for you home, accessories and jewelry for you avatar and even vehicles.
The downside to this that Second Life started charging content providers to list their free items which seems unfair since they’re only trying to help out the community.
There are places other than the Marketplace where skilled SL workers can share their work at no charge. One such place is a Second Life forum. Members can not only share items there that they have created but also other content such as guides, secrets and tips that they’ve learned throughout the years.
If you’ve a creator that wants to share your work to help out others then you can do so at the forum. Or if you’re not quite as skilled in the game as others and want to learn, you can stop and learn some pretty amazing Second Life secrets.

Smarter Gameplay With SL Tutorials & Walkthroughs
November 17th, 2010
Learning institutions are continuing to use Second Life as a teaching aid. Not only is SL the internet’s largest user-created virtual world where residents gather to socialize and create, but it’s also a world where people can come to learn real life skills.
IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) has properties in SL such as Comm Media Island where students come to develop projects, and Crimson Island a location that is used for classroom training and also to accustom new users.
IUP’s newest project in Second Life is Archaeology Island that features four areas centered around archaeology:
- Myan pyramid
- Native American village
- Underwater Lake Ontario shipwreck
- Cyprus dig site location
These locations are for visitors to explore and are shaped around data collected by IUP students and staff who worked at the actual loctations. It’s meant to be an interactive museum exhibit where students can come and learn about archaeology.
Second Life is host to numerous schools that spread education to the virtual word and also numerous learning buildings where you can go to learn how to be successful in the in-game world itself. Along with those, there are also outside resources to provide assistance.
- Second Life tutorials are created by residents who have mastered the game and can walk you through nearly every aspect of the virtual world.
- SL walkthroughs which are even more detailed than tutorials are teaching tools that will provide you with step-by-step directions for nearly any part of the game.
